The Biotechnology Division has well-equipped modern
instruments and technical know-how
required for undertaking custom research
involving immunology, virology, molecular
and cellular biology and recombinant DNA
technology. |

The Biotechnology division is working closely with conventional
breeders using recombinant DNA technology
to produce eco friendly, disease tolerant,
high yield Vegetable Crops.

IAHS has the largest state-of-the-art biotechnology unit in Asia
and has successfully adopted this novel
technique for mass multiplication of a
wide range of plant species such as
Banana, Cardamom, Vanilla, Gerbera,
Chrysanthemum and Carnation. Protocol has been developed for 40
species of plants for commercial
production.

ELISA based virus diagnostic system has been developed for banana
mosaic virus, Tomato leaf curl virus.

Biotechnology laboratory has been recognized by the Department of
Scientific and Industrial Research,
Ministry of Science and Technology,
Government of India. The Bangalore University has
recognized the Biotechnology Division as a
research center for doctoral
programme in plant sciences. |

laboratory offers practical training and
project work for students of M.Sc.
Biotechnology, B.E. Biotechnology, B.Tech
(Biotechnology) and Post Graduates specialized
in allied specialization in partial
fulfillment of the degree programme.
